Roofing Types Explained

February 27, 2018 By Tran Leave a Comment

The smartest thing you can do when beginning your journey with a roof replacement is learning the differences among the types. But, even though you want a gorgeous roof, avoid hurting your self by going deeply into debt with it. You can buy a roof that should last for decades, but if it’s not suitable for your climate then that number can drop in a dramatic way. Some people make the wrong purchase, and this really comes down to getting the best information and advice from a roofing contractor.

If you want something truly different and stunning, then consider wood for your shingles because it just looks so different. There are some drawbacks to using wood, and this is usually not a problem though just depending on where you live.

However, making them is very involved with some styles being made by hand. These are clearly for those who can afford them, and a large roof can be very costly.

There are tons of applications and uses for PVC roofs, and the shingles can have amazing properties. You have maybe seen this material in home water piping, and it’s known to be chemically inert in most cases. The only other material used in roofing shingles that is stronger than PVC is metal. You can get this for your home, but it’s most often used in various industries because of its unique properties.

If you want to make a shift to clay tiling, then ensure that your roof can hold up under the added weight. So this really becomes a very expensive ordeal if your home cannot deal with the weight. What you can also do is bring out a contractor who can determine if your home can withstand the weight or not, and this is an important thing to get done. Clay tiles also come in different thicknesses, and it just depends on how much you can pay for at the time of ordering.

Each type of roofing material, and this is shingles, are made to certain design specs. If you look enough you’ll see so many different kinds of shingles and the differences in the material as well. Start out slowly and begin with the basics of what your price range is, and then use that as a guideline.
